A Historically Significant Sword Made From The Gun Of the Battleship Mikasa By Horii Hideaki (Horii Toshihide)

This katana was made by Horii Toshihide.  Toshihide was one of the top sword smiths of his time.  The steel used to forged this sword is from the main gun of the famous Russo Japanese war battleship Mikasa.  The blade has wonderfully executed Jigane (grain) with a beautiful dark color to the steel.  The hamon (temper line) is a bright suguha (strait tempering pattern).  It is mounted in its original shira saya (wood resting scabbard).  The sword is in very good old polish with only a few dark stains from finger prints.  The tang say Made from the gun of the battleship Mikasa and is dated spring of 1929.  Only a few swords were made from the gun steel and were usually given to high ranking military officials.  The bottom 2 photos show  some information from Sloughs book on Horii Hideaki.
